The SmartSolar charge controller is capable of recharging a battery that is significantly depleted. It can function with a battery voltage as low as 0 Volts, assuming the cells are not permanently sulphated or otherwise damaged.

Features

  • Ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT): This feature is particularly beneficial on cloudy days when light intensity fluctuates. An ultra-fast MPPT controller can enhance energy collection by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.

  • Advanced Maximum Power Point Detection under partial shading: In such conditions, multiple maximum power points (MPP) may exist on the voltage curve. Traditional MPPTs often settle on a local MPP, which may not be the best option. The SmartSolar algorithm ensures maximum energy harvest by identifying and locking onto the optimal MPP.

  • Exceptional conversion efficiency: The charger operates without a cooling fan, achieving a maximum efficiency of over 98%.

  • Flexible charge algorithm: It offers a fully programmable charge algorithm along with eight pre-programmed options, selectable via a rotary switch (refer to the manual for specifics).

  • Comprehensive electronic protection: Includes over-temperature protection and power derating at high temperatures, PV short circuit and reverse polarity protection, PV reverse current protection, and more.

  • Built-in Bluetooth Smart: This wireless feature allows for setup, monitoring, updates, and synchronization of SmartSolar Charge Controllers.

  • Internal temperature sensor and optional external battery voltage, temperature, and current sensing via Bluetooth: Devices like a Smart Battery Sense, BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor, or SmartShunt can communicate battery voltage and temperature (and current, for BMV 712 or SmartShunt) to one or more SmartSolar Charge Controllers.

  • VE.Direct or VE.Can: Provides wired data connectivity to a Color Control GX, other GX products, PC, or other devices.

  • Function for recovering fully discharged batteries: The charger will start charging even if the battery is completely discharged to zero volts. It will also reconnect to a fully discharged Li-ion battery with an integrated disconnect function.

  • VE.Can: the solution for multiple controllers: Up to 25 units can be synchronized using VE.Can, and up to 10 units using Bluetooth.

  • Remote on-off capability: This can be connected, for instance, to a VE.BUS BMS.

  • Programmable relay: Can be set to activate on an alarm or other events.

  • Optional: SmartSolar pluggable LCD display: Easily remove the rubber seal protecting the plug on the front of the controller and connect the display.
